DESCRIPTION

Product Overview

Coming to you from the volcanic slopes of Mount Elgon in eastern Uganda, specifically the highland communities of Bududa District. Mount Elgon is one of East Africa’s oldest extinct volcanoes, and its fertile, mineral-rich soils have supported coffee cultivation in the region for over a century.

Bududa sits within the historic Bugisu sub-region near the Kenyan border. Farms are small — often less than half an acre devoted to coffee — and planted along steep mountain slopes at elevations ranging from approximately 1,600 to over 2,000 meters above sea level. The region experiences abundant rainfall, bright equatorial sunshine, and cool nighttime temperatures. This combination slows cherry development, allowing sugars to fully mature and contributing to clarity and structure in the cup.

While Uganda is widely known for Robusta production, Mt. Elgon is recognized for its high-elevation Arabica. This lot reflects the longstanding Bugisu tradition, grown by smallholder farmers and carefully processed to preserve its clean, balanced profile.

We are roasting this coffee medium (City/City+) to showcase its natural sweetness and versatility.

Did you know? The Bududa variety, also known locally as Bugisu, is a classic Arabica bean with a long history. It traveled from Ethiopia to Malawi (formerly Bududa) before being introduced to Uganda in the early 20th century. It is known for its intense and floral aroma.
