Description

High on the slopes of the Aberdare Mountain Range in Murang’a, Kenya, the Marimira Peaberry showcases the extraordinary depth and brightness Kenyan coffees are famous for. This exceptional lot comes from the Marimira Coffee Factory, founded in 1966 and now home to nearly 1,000 smallholder farmers, each cultivating just 1–2 hectares of coffee on average.

The region’s volcanic red soils, combined with steady rainfall from two distinct seasons, create the ideal environment for high-quality peaberries to thrive. Grown at 1,400–1,600 meters, these beans develop a vibrant profile characterized by lively acidity, layered fruit complexity, and a rich, sweet body.

After producers carefully hand-pick only the ripest cherries, the coffee undergoes a meticulous washed process. Cherries are pulped and fermented in cement tanks for 16–18 hours, then washed with fresh Mukungai River water and dried for up to two weeks on raised African beds. During drying, the beans are turned constantly for even consistency, and any imperfections are sorted out — ensuring exceptional cup quality.

The Marimira factory is located within a well-preserved ecological region, surrounded by indigenous trees and a diverse range of wildlife, including antelopes, jackals, hares, and colorful birds. Sustainability practices are central here: producers recycle water during pulping, compost coffee pulp as organic fertilizer, use integrated pest management to protect beneficial insects, and take active measures to preserve local flora and fauna.

The result? A vibrant, complex cup bursting with tropical fruit sweetness, citrus brightness, and layered complexity — a true showcase of Kenyan excellence.
