DESCRIPTION
High in the misty Andes of southern Colombia lies Los Alpes, a mountain community so remote that reaching it requires flights, pickups, and faith in the road ahead. The journey winds through lush valleys and steep dirt passes, where the clouds hang low over fields of green coffee trees and avocado groves. Here, about 280 people call Los Alpes home — families who’ve found balance between coffee, community, and conservation.
Each producer in Los Alpes preserves a section of untouched forest on their land and protects the mountain springs that feed their farms. Coffee grows among lemon and avocado trees while free-range animals complete a circular, sustainable ecosystem. These are small farms — just a few hectares each — yet they produce coffees that stand tall among Colombia’s best.
Not long ago, Los Alpes was a region of subsistence farming, focused mainly on corn and peanuts. The transition to coffee transformed everything — lifting incomes, funding education, and allowing families to stay on their land with pride. That sense of rebirth comes through in the cup: a lively profile with crisp red apple acidity, sweet black cherry, and a smooth cocoa finish that reminds you of where it came from — a place high in the clouds, where hard work and hope grow side by side.
