Sumatra – Orang Utan Coffee Project – Grade 1

Discover the taste of conservation with this remarkable Sumatra coffee grown high in the lush Gayo Highlands of Aceh, northern Sumatra. This Grade 1 lot comes from the Orang Utan Coffee Project — a pioneering initiative that protects critically endangered orangutans and their rainforest habitat while empowering a thriving community of over 350 smallholder farmers.

Grown at high elevations and processed using the traditional Giling Basah (wet-hulled) method, this coffee delivers a full, clean body with light acidity, balancing sweet notes of chocolate and subtle fruitiness. Each cup is uniform, smooth, and velvety, with a finish that lingers gently on the palate.

But there’s more to love than just the flavor. The Orang Utan Coffee Project ensures transparent, fair, and sustainable production, from the farm to the roaster. Farmers grow their coffee in compliance with EU Organic Standards, protecting both biodiversity and their own future. For every kilogram of green beans exported, a premium goes directly back to the farmer for their dedication to organic and conservation practices, with an equal premium supporting the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP) — safeguarding one of the world’s most endangered great apes and the last remaining lowland rainforests they call home.

Your coffee, their future — take responsibility with every sip.
